Prosperity and Poverty
The topics of prosperity and poverty in the church are almost always sure to raise opposing views. There are some who believe that the church should not be a place that preaches prosperity, particularly when there are so many who are poor. Then there are those who believe that finances are a necessary resource that must be in place in order to help finance ministry. After all, other than salvation, nothing in life is free.
There are many points to ponder considering these two vital topics. One, we must realize that the poor will be amongst us always. We must also realize that not everyone will be entrusted with riches. Believe it or not, money is not a bad thing; it’s what people do with it that makes it evil. Whether rich or poor, when one is entrusted with money, it behooves them to practice money management. When one can be proven faithful over little, then he will be entrusted with more. Perhaps this has been the stumbling block that has caused some to gain while others remain stagnant.
